We provide all of our services to survivors of same-sex/gender partner-violence and to those identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer, including short-term counseling, safety planning, advocacy, support group, referrals, and shelter.įrom its inception the Safe Homes Project has been committed to changing the way we think of domestic violence in that abuse is not a personal problem, but a public one. Our services are focused on providing children with a place where they can explore their feelings, find support and validation, and learn to increase safety. In addition to social recreational groups, we provide support services to the children. We assist survivors in obtaining legal consultation and representation when there are legal issues with regard to immigration, child custody, visitation, divorce, and housing through linkages with legal providers that are familiar with domestic violence. ![]() Counseling is focused on resolving the immediate crisis, regaining a sense of personal power, and planning for safety. We provide short-term counseling in both English and Spanish. Weekly facilitated support groups (in both English and Spanish) provide survivors with support and camaraderie, while reducing isolation and self-blame. 24-hour hotline: 71 Our hotline provides crisis counseling, information, and referrals to support groups, counseling, safety planning, legal assistance referrals, criminal justice and family court advocacy, orders of protection, and shelter. ![]() We also provide targeted services for special populations, including Spanish-speakers, youth, and LGBTQ survivors of partner violence.Īll services are free and offered in both English and Spanish. In addition, we offer a wide-range of consultation, training, and educational services to community and professional groups and work to improve laws and policies affecting survivors. We provide a full array of services, which include a hotline, counseling, and safety-planning. And, most of all we are providing help to survivors.For over 40 years, Good Shepherd Services’ Safe Homes Project has been working to confront and eliminate domestic and partner violence in New York City. Domestic violence and sexual assault affect everyone in our community and it will take all of us working together to build a community free of domestic violence and sexual assault. Despite this, we continue to assist survivors in multiple other ways listed above, and we are working hard to hire and train advocates as quickly as possible.Īs our organization reflects on the needs of survivors and prepares to meet challenges with a renewed determination to continue to provide exceptional services, we appreciate your support. ![]() For these reasons, we made the difficult decision to temporarily limit the number of residents we are able to shelter, so that we may ensure proper care and support are provided for those in our care. This is particularly difficult when staff must be fully trained in support of a 24-hour program such as ours.
